The 2018-19 school year was my first year at Haslett as a teacher. I am an alumnus of Haslett, attending K-12 and graduating in 1994. This year I will be teaching 2-D Design, 3-D Design, Ceramics, and Advanced Ceramics. I will be splitting time between the high school in the morning and the middle school in the afternoon. Thanks for visiting.
2D DesignThe class supplies for 2D Design will be; a regular, yellow, 2B pencil(s), pencil sharpener, ruler, and notebook. The notebook will be used for taking notes and sketching, so if you prefer a notebook with lines, that's fine. I sometimes prefer a graph paper notebook because it helps me to measure my drawings easily.
Students will learn various drawing techniques and develop their skills in observational drawing. Students will develop an understanding of design principles and use this knowledge to create their own artistic compositions with the use of media such as graphite, collage, watercolor, acrylic paint, ink, etc. Students will gain an overall understanding of art and will become comfortable with the visual communication process.
3D Design
Students will develop an understanding of 3-dimensional art and learn to transform their ideas and drawings into 3-dimensional forms. Students will create 3-dimensional artworks using a variety of materials including clay, wire, paper mache, linoleum block, wood, etc. Students will gain an overall understanding of art and will become comfortable with the visual communication process.
CeramicsThe supplies list for ceramics will be a notebook of your choosing and a regular, yellow, 2B pencil. This notebook will be for note-taking and sketching, so if you prefer something with lines, that's okay. I prefer graph paper notebooks because when I am doing a technical drawing of a potential project, the graph helps me make sure the drawing is measured evenly. Students will learn different hand-building techniques while working through a self-created theme. Students will also learn different glazing techniques.
Advanced CeramicsStudents will build on the skills they learned in Ceramics. They will also learn how to throw a piece on the wheel.
